I saw this clip on YouTube of this famous skateboarder talking about how winning awards didn't mean anything to him, only wanting to create something new each time he woke up. Originally, I had written some fake Elvis Costello lyrics for this song, but when I finally recorded it, even I didn't know what it meant! After I saw the clip, I got this vision that maybe my life could be about more than just failing to be a rock star. I re-wrote the lyrics.
The Curve In The Road
I had to stop and take another look
At what I think I may be doing
Not write another chapter in my book
Another script that needs re-skewing
I gotta stop and take another bite
To see if it's a poison apple
I'll either sleep or I'll be up all night
Then I'll get lost or else the map will
CHORUS
Seems I gotta get perspective
If only I can bear the load
That's why I'm lookin' in my rear-view mirror
At the curve in the road
Everyone else is doing very well
For something they don't know they're grooving
Everyone else's houses look like hell
But they're not doing any moving
I'm gonna live me like my soul's on fire
And everything is so exciting
I'm finished preaching, baby, to that choir
No matter what the cost of fighting
CHORUS
Once is enough for saying shame on you
And twice for saying shame on me
I couldn’t leave it there. I should have known
I'd have to go for number three!
CHORUS
